The Elder Scrolls MMO revealed

An MMO based on the popular and long-established Elder Scrolls roleplaying fantasy series has been rumoured and anticipated for some time. Today it has been officially announced that the project is indeed real, and that it will be unveiled in detail in the June issue of Game Informer.

The Elder Scrolls Online is set a millennium before the events of Skyrim. The plot revolves around the daedric prince Molag Bal and his attempts to merge Tamriel into his demonic realm.

The Game Informer cover features the map of Tamriel and its various continents such as Skyrim, Morrowind, Elsweyr, and Cyrodiil, lending credence to the full landscape of The Elder Scrolls being available to players in the game.

The game will support both solo-questing and player-driven PVP conflict that will see three player factions battling it out in "open-world warfare over the province of Cyrodiil and the Emperor's throne itself", according to Game Informer.

The Elder Scrolls Online is being developed by Zenimax Online Studios. The studio's game director, Matt Firor is an experienced MMO veteran, having worked on Mythic's well-received title, Dark Age of Camelot.

"It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years," said Firor, indicating the title has been in progress for some time. "The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise."

Tomorrow will see a brief teaser trailer from Zenimax Online and Bethesda Softworks as well as the first screenshot of the game. The Elder Scrolls Online is scheduled for release in 2013 for both PC and Mac.

What do you think about the newest direction and upcoming entry in the Elder Scrolls series?

OMG OMG OMG this is awesome news.
Sounds kinda similar to the novels.
But I can't wait to get more details on this.
[MOG] [MOG] I need more details!
Sounds awesome. Apparently it's been in development for five years already. [MOG]

Bethesda have told us that it will also be in the next issue of GameInformer Australia before hitting online media, so you might need to go back to the print days to get a jump on it [MOG] [MOG]

Of course, it'll be on the internets a few minutes after the mag goes on-sale :P
The fighting dynamics and spell creation/abilities will have to be created differently. I love the elderscroll games but there have always been certain things (such as levitation in morrowind, the ability to create enchantments to go invisible, insanely OP spells/weapons) have been a hinderment for any idea of multi-player. I'm sure they'll do it well though, they always do
Who needs a life?
The first time something might actually be a "WoW killer." It doesn't matter how great of an MMO a game is, it needs to be a hit among consumers to truly topple WoW. I think the Elder Scrolls franchise is the best contender yet to actually overthrow WoW, not because it's better (a lot of MMO's are) but because it's so god damn popular. (*)

Let's just hope the subscription is under $10... an ideal price would be free after a $50 or even $100 purchase, but that's far from realistic. A game that's been in development for this long needs a subscription... [sick]
I think I just found the first MMO worth playing for me.
Not Fallout MMO [Shifty]

I'll still give it a go though ^_^

You don't think Guild Wars 2 is a genuine contender?

I think he has a good point with the whole popularity thing. Skyrim was popular in a more socially acceptable sense than any other game I've come across (except maybe Mario & Co.). I kept seeing people who I'd never have expected to play video games talking about it. I'd say that general acceptance gives it an edge over Guild Wars 2.
oh wow a elder scrolls MMO

I wonder if there is gonna be free pvp and pros kill all the noobs
