Upwards of 50 games currently rated MA15+ could become R18+ if they are reclassified under the new ratings system.
NSW MP Greg Donnelly says appropriate measures will be taken to move upwards of 50 games -- at least 50 are being considered -- to the adults-only rating, reports Kotaku.
"Following the introduction of the new framework on 1 January 2013, steps will be taken to look at what are colloquially referred to as the 50 video and computer games — at least 50 — that it is believed in one way or another have been shoe-horned into the MA 15+ category and should now be rated at the higher classification," said Mr Donnelly.
While games might be reclassified and moved from MA15+ to R18+, we've previously heard that games Refused Classification, like Mortal Kombat, will not be given a chance to be classified as R18+.
It's unknown if this harsh stance has since been revised, or if it was merely an unconfirmed option to begin with.
How these 50 suspect games will be reclassified is still unknown. There are several methods for a game to be reclassified, but none of them are easy, and that's before factoring in the hassle of pulling them all off the shelf for relabelling.
