Company of Heroes 2 rewards smart play

Company of Heroes 2 may look quite amazing, the most important thing to Relic Entertainment is to re-inject tactics into its real-time strategy.

We want to be rewarding smart players. It's not an APM (actions-per-minute) game. To play Company of Heroes 2 you need to play smart and be aggressive in your decision making. We want smart players to be able to maximize the value of their units. A guy playing smart with his defenses and his cover and his movement, you want him to beat up on a guy with three squads." - Quinn Duffy, Relic Entertainment

One way of doing this is the new TrueSight system, giving each unit on the ground their own line of site, along wiht more movement options and the introduction of dynamic waether. Breaking ice and snowstorms have already been shown off, but the war on the Eastern Front lasted four years, which means every season will be covered in game.

"We're covering the full breadth of the Eastern Front campaign, and only half the war was fought in winter. There's spring, fall, and summer... the weather and the environment had a big impact on both sides. That's part of the narrative experience of the Eastern Front. "

Seems like Company of Heroes 2 could be the real return of strategic glory.

It's going to be good. And the best part of it has always been that it's NOT an 'APM' style game.

Still won't stop Scott from spamming 4000 grenadiers though. :P
Hmmm coming from starcraft 2 I'm interested to try this. Never played the first CoH but I've heard many good things about it, and strategy and tactics have always been a fairly strong point for me instead of APM.
I like to play smart with my 4000 grenadiers [Shifty]

But yeah I'm glad they're sticking to that because I actually like to take it slow with these games. Unlike ****ing @iSR. Otherwise it's over before you've had a proper battle.

I prefer to slowly roll the rape train forward until we get majority control then send the rape brigade into their fungardens [MOG]
I love to make a behemoth defensive turtle, then add offense to it late. STUKAS FOR THE WIN!!!!!

I think I'm even slower than skarteh [MOG]

You just like to have set up a camp that will support your army for a 50 year occupation before making the final assault. Just get the job done! ^_^
I have a beta code for this from the Expo. I shall enjoy it thoroughly ;)

Please, please, please do a write up.

Rushing early game brits was always fun. Then Arty the shit out of anything that moves mid to late.
There's an NDA :S

I could record some footage and share it quietly between a few people.

I'm a people. ;)
Well, that's debatable.

Lol, that's how I approached RTS before starcraft 2 :P What a wake up call learning that game was. Just curious, does slow turtling play work in random online matches against good players?

You will have your heart shat in within approximately 5 seconds.

Not at all, I just hate being flanked so I like moving up a defensive line the width of the map while building up forces. I like rolling defense not base defense :P I don't like chipping away at the enemy as much as I like choking off their resources then taking a massive iron shit on them with my tanks.
It's not like I rush within the first 10 minutes with Jeeps or anything. It's just that I'd rather avoid a 3 hour stalemate.

I'm looking at you Axis Retreat. [Shifty]

Something tells me you and I are going to have some very quick rounds when this comes out. I also like the attack ASAP route.

Lol what do you mean by that?

To clarify what I was asking, does your style of play work in online matches against good players? Just curious because in SC2, it doesn't :P
Probably not overly effective. Though we don't really play games against other people, just the CPU or each other.

It could work though if you play it right - whereas in games like Starcraft it has zero chance of working.
