In this developer's documentary a few of Arcane Studios' developers talk about the gritty steampunk world they wanted to shape in their game
Dishonored.
When the game kicks off you strangely find yourself staring through the bars of a prison cell. Our character, Corvo, has been falsely accused of killing the Queen, whom of which he has been a bodyguard for years. Possessed with supernatural powers, Corvo breaks out, and seeks out his accusers to destroy them one by one.
But Corvo is not necessarily a brute that slaughters everyone to get to his targets. The variation in Dishonered comes by the fact that you have many different possibilities of executing your assasination missions. The game can be played without ever touching a single soul, safe from the mission's target ofcourse, but how you do this is entirely up to you. Even more intriguing is the fact that the player can 'eliminate' the target without ever coming in direct contact with him. This is, the developers argue, a game that addresses all types of gamers.
There seems to be no end to the options in Dishonered. For example, Corvo's superpowers lets players metamorphose into a fish and swim under the sewers to breach castles, then teleport from one end to another to finally plant a knife in the targets' throat.
Are you excited to discover the unique and extraordinary world of Dishonered? Take a look at what the developers' think about their project.
