Dishonored, the upcoming Steampunk-inspired stealth game from Arkane Studios, can be completed “without killing anyone” in-game, distancing the highly anticipated title from other genre-defining titles.
Co-creative directors Harvey Smith and Raphael Colantonio revealed the interesting tidbit in a Q-and-A session with fans.
"Yes, you can complete the game without killing anyone," answered Mr Smith. "(It was a goal of ours.) And the world reflects that to some extent."
The game can be played in a number of “weird” ways, according to Mr Smith.
”As players we're always trying to do things we didn't do last time. Our programmers were all trying to do crazy weird variants this week. 'The Falling Angel playthrough,' where you only kill by using drop-assassination."
If you choose not to take the murderous path, though, you’ll likely miss out on some special powers for your character.
"You'll miss the assassination anims and a couple of powers like Devouring Swarm and Shadow Kill," he said. "But playing non-lethally (and with total stealth, on a higher difficulty) often forces very tense cool moments...sublime tension as my friend Randy Smith (from Thief) likes to say. So it's a trade-off."
How will you play Dishonored? Will you take the stealth approach, or the “all-in” approach? Or perhaps a mixture of both?
