gamigo Inc. have announced they have acquired the North American distribution license to popular free-to-play MMORPG Fiesta Online. gamigo, itself a European publisher of online games, purchased the game for an undisclosed price, which will be added to it's portfolio of titles.
Fiesta Online was released in 2007 in the west, at a time where free-to-play titles were a novelty at best, and there were few quality titles out on the market. gamigo already operate the game in Europe, and with over 1.2 million players, it means the title in North America has "substantial turnover growth as well as improvement in efficiency for marketing and game development".
The reason for the purchase is due to Outspark closing its doors, leaving it's other title, Secret of the Solstice, with an uncertain future.
Due to the acquisition, gamigo will also be moving its offices from New York to San Francisco, while also increasing the amount of staff it hosts as well as advertising efforts.
