Mana Bar Melbourne turns one this Sunday

Good news, drinking gamers. Mana Bar Melbourne turns one-year-old this Sunday, July 15.

To celebrate, head to the only gaming bar in town for a day of competitions, games, guests and drinks.

Mana Bar Melbourne is located at: 336 Brunswick st, Fitzroy, Melbourne. It opened following the success of its Brisbane-based big brother. Last we heard, there's also plans for a Sydney version, but today is all about Melbourne.

Or Sunday, should I say.

I've normally been pretty supportive of Mana Bar and what it aims to offer, but boy have they let this place go.

For one, there is graffiti all over the front of the shop. Tags on the windows and door. Clean it up.

Secondly, the front of the shop itself is ugly and has no charm whatsoever. If they are going for the "we don't care" look, you won't survive in Melbourne's bar scene. Even the hipster bars have a quaint charm.

Thirdly, surely they can get a sign that says "Closed". I went passed there once and they'd written "Closed" on a white piece of paper.

It's just not a very enticing place. I've come to realise that.

As for the environment itself, it's not really a "gaming" bar. It's a place that serves alcohol that...lets you play games.

Go and buy some old-school arcade machines, ditch the 360s and PS3s and make it a G.A.M.I.N.G. B.A.R.. Having single-player games running isn't very fun, nor is sitting on crappy stools with table hardly big enough to fit 3-4 drinks on, let alone controllers.

It's just a shitty place.

I got this impression last night as well. It's as if they were like THIS IS A GREAT IDEA, and then they kinda shoved all the work onto someone else. It's a mess

after reading what the place has become I'm becoming pretty pissed.
They have the opportunity to be part of something big in Melbourne. There is a huge population of gamers here and having a day/nightspot to have a good time and play some games.
But hearing it so run down like this, geez.
I bet myself and a whole bunch of others on here could do a better job at running a place like this, and turn it into a place where people actually wanna go.
Reading some comments does not make me wanna go there right now
