After rebooting Prince of Persia in 2008 with a new style, Ubisoft went back to the Sands of Time trilogy in 2010. The publisher's uncertainty as to the franchise's direction was apparent, but it now says the popular action series is "paused" as it works to rejig the Prince of Persia brand.
"Brand management is a tricky thing,” Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat told IGN. “It needs people's attention a lot. I think it is fair to say that, right now, Prince of Persia is being paused. But we said the same thing for some other brands that suddenly popped up because a team is willing to do it.”
It appears bleak, but the series will definitely return when the publisher is ready, according to Mallat.
“We'll find something to entertain them [Prince of Persia fans] with in the future. Prince of Persia is part of Ubisoft's portfolio," he said.
The last Prince of Persia release was 2011's Prince of Persia Classic Trilogy HD.
