Way back in April we reported that Steam was coming to Linux. Now Valve has announced that a dedicated team of Linux wizards are working to bring Steam to Ubuntu 12.04.
For those who don't know anything about the penguin-fuelled OS, Ubuntu is just one distribution of Linux that is immensely popular with home and business users.
The first game to come to the Linux platform will be Left 4 Dead 2. Developers have been working on a Linux version of Steam since 2011, with Valve dubbing the project "Steam'd Penguins."
Valve may be focusing on Ubuntu right now, but they promise that other distros will be coming in the future. An internal beta of Linux Steam will be available soon for Valve employees as they begin to port their catalogue over to the open-source platform.
Great news for Linux gamers - gone are the days where Wine was your only option. Are you a Linux user? Jump into our Linux discussion to talk all things Penguin.
