Crime Craft – MMO/RPG/TPS
Hi all, been awhile since I posed on the Forums, or wrote an article, but between work and life there hasn’t been much time of late for anything. Today I would like to write a review of my favourite on-line game at the moment, Crime Craft. I’ve been playing this game on and off for a couple of years now, and although it has some bugs and glitches (What game doesn’t) I continually find myself drawn back to playing it again and again. Crime Craft is produced by Vogster Entertainment, and so far has had 2 major upgrades, the first was “The Bleedout” and the latest is titled “Gang Wars”. The game was banned by the censorship board in Australia due to its use of drugs (Boosts).
The premise of the game is life after the meltdown of society after the worlds supply of oil runs out. Gangs rule the streets and life is tough. At the start of the game you do the normal things, choose if your character will be male or female, choose your first outfit and give your character a name. Once you get past this stage, your introduced to the “Initial UI Screen”. This screen has been an issue for the game in some ways. It was introduced to try to attract TPS users to the game, but has been a bit of a failure. There are 3 different types of subscription, F2P, Deluxe and Premium. F2P offers you pretty much all the game has to offer, except for the ability to create and run your own game.
Your stuck with this UI until you reach level 6. The only good thing about it is that it doesn’t take long to reach level 6. After reaching this level, you can get into Sunrise City, which are the main lobbies of the game. There are 3 of these, Downtown, Midtown and Oceanside. In these areas you will find Vendors, the Auction House, many missions and the entries to all the PvP and PvE areas of the game. This is also where you will be able to create your own gang or join an existing gang. Deluxe and premium also give your extra cash and EXP, while Premium also gives you Gold Bars every month. Gold Bars (GB) is the currency used in the “Black Market” which is Crime Crafts Cash Shop.
Having reached Level 6, you are given the choice to enter Sunrise City, or do the Prologue. I would advise everyone go through the Prologue, because even though it’s a bit tedious, it gives you a really good indication of what the game is about, and introduces you to the PvE and PvP content, as well as giving you a starting look at the weapons and “Boosts”. The Boosts are probably the most important part of the game as these are what you use to give you increased damage resistance, increased weapon damage and health/HP boosts. Without Boosts, you will find it very difficult to be competitive in the game. It’s important to learn as much as possible about boosts.
Once your in Sunrise City, there are NPC’s dotted all through the 3 main lobbies, and all of these will give you specific missions which will earn you extra cash and EXP. You can take these missions 1 at a time, or just take them all at once and finish them as you play. There are also Phone Booths dotted around the city which you can also take jobs from. Take as many of these phone jobs as you can, and always be sure that you complete them by returning to the phone booth and select new ones – it’s all easy cash, and some jobs give you extra rewards as well.
You can choose from one of 3 professions, each profession has 2 different tiers:
Gunsmith – Weapon Head
AUG Mentor
Tailor – Clothier
Outfitter
Engineer – Gearhead
Ammo Jockey
Chemist - Bio Forger
Med Seeker
Crafting is important once you get further into the game and really start using Custom Classes. Chemist and Tailor are probably the 2 best professions, firstly because of demand from other players for clothes and boosts, and secondly for their ability to make cash for the player.
For me, the PvP is where the game really shines. The abilities and boosts are easy to use, and in some cases make a lot of difference in the outcome of the current match. The mechanics of combat is smooth and easy to come to grips with. There’s multiple different maps and game types, such as:
RIOT – Deathmatch
SHOOTOUT – Team Deathmatch
SNATCH N GRAB – Capture the Flag
ROBBERY – Take money from your opponents safe and return to your own safe
CTZ – Capture the Zone, 3 Zones on the map, Cap and Hold for points
CTZOP – Cap The Zone One Point, only 1 point on the map
ACD – Similar to CoD’s HQ
CA – Destroy your opponents Core, while protecting your own
The servers are currently based in the US and Europe, the US of course being the better choice for us Aussies, and there are currently 2 servers, Exeter and Euricho. Population levels in the game are currently low, and the game is generally only populated by a number of loyal fans of the game. To me this is a shame because the game is capable of giving a lot of fun and enjoyment, The GM’s run events and there are daily and weekly Tournaments.
Below I have placed some links to videos of the game. There are currently quite a few Aussies and Kiwi’s that play, and we’d be happy to welcome more.
In closing, while the game has a fairly steep learning curve in regards to the boosts and which ones to use, and what clothes, skills and weapons are the best for certain situations, the free flowing PvP and map styles more than make up for the shortcomings of the game.
